Hi! I'm Kaori Sohma.

I bring a wealth of expertise as a seasoned leader and a skilled creative director, building high-performing teams that excel in crafting compelling narratives and driving impactful work through campaigns, branding & design.

My most recent role was at Vox Media as a creative director.

We built and launched a multi-platform streaming service from scratch, showcasing stories from Vox, The Verge, Eater, SB Nation, and more.

The team built and established a unique viewing experience by architecting and developing design & animation systems and seamless brand attributions, laying the foundation for meticulously curated programming. We discovered and defined the channel’s distinctive brand voice, tone, and visual language.

Previously, for over 10 years, I was at NBCUniversal and Paramount as a senior creative director.

As a brand design lead, I established, evolved, and maintained new and legendary brands while spearheading ideation to completion for 100+ shows and 100+ campaigns and managing high-functioning internal design teams and vendors.

Before that, I co-founded a design agency called Lifelong Friendship Society with 3 other partners.

As co-founder and creative director, I led all creative and strategic initiatives, office/staff management, and client relationships.

In between full-time positions, I spent a few years to freelance.

I honed my perspective, storytelling abilities, design palette, and live-action directing skills during this period. My freelance endeavors ranged in diverse projects, including filmmaking, experimental pieces, music videos, branding, direct-to-client commercial spots, promotional packages, and support for non-profit startup initiatives.

My journey started at my dream job at MTV Networks.

The industry was entering a new era when I was at VH1/MTVN. The brands influenced generations and helped revolutionize what was to come.
